This is the launch of Cafe Mama, future site of my blog (once I can figure out Moveable Type or find another option). It's not completely ready for primetime so all the links aren't working, yet. Really big things are happening in my personal and professional life, I feel simultaneously lucky and overwhelmed! Here are some of the cafe mama happenings:
- I just realized a life-long dream, to coach high school track - I'm the assistant coach at my alma mater Cleveland High School (here in Portland, Oregon), overseeing the high jumpers and hurdlers.
- Wednesday marked the launch of my long-awaited news software. Jyte is the best way to find, read and follow the news. The cool thing about Jyte (for those of you who have been following the RSS debate): it has all the benefits of RSS readers in that you don't have to surf the web to find your content, you can read the content in the Jyte window, and it takes up a very small amount of bandwidth. You're getting headlines, not whole articles, pushed to you. The real breakthrough, however, is that the articles you receive are based on search technology. Instead of subscribing to feeds that already exist, you create your own search with whatever keywords you want ("sarah gilbert mama", for example) and get only the news that relates. Since we're still in Beta mode, blogs and RSS feeds haven't yet been included, but in a few weeks' time we will be greatly expanding these capabilities. download JYTE here.
- I have about the coolest group of mama friends ever, they have made me think a lot about building community, how necessary it is in today's world to find a non-judgemental network of peers to support us in our everyday lives. You can see our "mission statement" here.
- I'm starting this blog as a place to collect my articles and essays. I'd love to publish beyond the web; please let me know if you're interested in anything I've written.
